The Bear Tribe (I realized that "tribe" actually is more accurate than "clan." Shame on me lol) works like this:
The only one who keeps her personality is the Chief. The rest lose their individuality. Saehee explains that people like Narae in the beginning, who have a latent connection to the Bear Tribe, are free from this mind control unless the Bear Tribe Chief takes active interest in her.
I'm unsure about how succession of chiefs work, unfortunately

Honestly, it depends on what you consider story development. I fully agree and happily announce that the author is a bad writer. However, he does a good job world building in the next volume. And the current volume has some truly dramatic and emotional moments. Of course, it all falls flat on its face by the end of this volume, but he was so damn close to writing a good volume and I give him props for that. Honestly, I'd say that if you didn't like the previous 138 chapters, you definitely won't like the next 20 lol. But the stuff after that might be enjoyable.

I am confused as to how the bear clan works. Is it just that they have to obey all commands by the leader or is it a complete destruction of individuality? And when a new clan head is chosen is it after the old one dies/retires or is it when the new one is awakened?

How interesting... Narae was violent on the MC behalf, and she admitted to being inappropriately violent to him. If she acted like this more often, I might not think the MC is insane for liking her or being in the same room as her.
